What is Associate?
Associate is a web application designed to streamline multi-document workflows. It enables users to easily compare documents, update templates using reference materials, and ask questions across multiple documents simultaneously.
Spellbook Word Add-In vs Associate
The Spellbook Word Add-In is designed for single-document workflows, making it ideal for reviewing, redlining, and drafting individual documents. Use it when you need to mark up a contract, flag risks, or generate new clauses from scratch.
Associate, on the other hand, is built for multi-document tasks. It's best suited for comparing documents, revising templates based on reference materials, or analyzing multiple documents at once.

Associate Overview
1. There are two ways to access Associate:
Website: https://associate.spellbook.legal/
Desktop App: https://download.spellbook.legal/
Once you have access, sign in to your Spellbook account. Here's how to get signed-up if you aren't already.
2. Once signed in, you can start uploading the files you'd like to work with in Associate by clicking on "Add Files." You can upload as many document as you like, but we recommend starting with 2-5 for best results.
Note - Spellbook Associate can edit and revise Word Documents only, but can reference and read Word documents, PDFs and .txt files.
3. Once you have your files uploaded, you can start typing your prompt in the textbox to tell it what you'd like it to do. Type your instructions in plain language like you would with an assistant you're asking to start a project for you.
There are several different use cases for Associate, including:
1) Revise documents based on another
2) Compare two or more documents
3) Ask questions across multiple documents
Revising Documents Based on Another
1. To revise a document based on another, upload the template document and any reference documents. Then type in your instructions.
Example: Revise my SPA based on the terms in my terms sheet
Tip: Use the "Enhance" feature to improve your prompt automatically.
4. Click on the blue arrow key to start the project.
5. Revisions will be made to your document based on your instructions.
Tip: For the best results, make your prompt specific and include a clear editing action (e.g., revise, replace, add, remove, or update).
Action-oriented instructions help Associate understand that you want changes made directly to the document.
6. Associate will let you know once the changes have been applied to your document.
7. You can click into the document that's being revised to see the changes that have been applied.
8. You'll be able to view the changes within the editor panel.
9. When clicking through the applied redlines, you'll have the option to Accept or Reject the applied changes.
10. You can download a copy of your revised document using the 'Download' button (top right).
Comparing two or more documents
1. To compare two or more documents, start a new project and upload the files you'd like to compare. Enter in your prompt in the textbox.
Example: Compare the SPA and the IRA and tell me all the differences.
2. Click on the blue arrow key to start.
3. Spellbook will then give you a summary of the changes.
You can have an ongoing conversation with Spellbook Associate to ask it to provide more details or provide concise summaries of the changes. Simply type in your instructions or feedback and Spellbook will respond appropriately.
4. If you want to add a document to a project for additional reference, click Add File and upload any additional documents you need.
Asking questions across multiple documents
1. Upload the documents you'd like to work with.
2. Enter your questions, then click on the blue arrow key.
3. Spellbook will review all the documents uploaded and give you answers.
