Customizing how Associate communicates with you, and drafts language in the chat.

Associate now lets you customize how it communicates with you. You can control response length, tone, and add custom instructions so outputs better match your preferences.


Set your Tone & Style preferences

  1. Open Spellbook

  2. Go to Settings

  3. Select Tone & Style

  4. Choose your preferences (see below)

  5. Changes are saved automatically


Available settings

Response Style

Controls how detailed Associate’s responses are:

  • Default: Balanced responses

  • Concise: Short, direct answers (often in bullet points)

  • Detailed: More comprehensive responses with added context


Tone

Sets the overall voice of responses:

  • Professional

  • Friendly

  • Direct


Custom Instructions

Add specific preferences in free text (up to 1,000 characters).

Examples:

  • “Always respond in French”

  • “Never use em dashes”

  • “Assume I represent the buyer”


How it works

  • Your settings apply across all conversations and document edits

  • You only need to set them once

  • Associate will follow these preferences automatically in future interactions


Tips

  • Use Concise + Direct for quick reviews or redline summaries

  • Use Detailed + Professional for client-facing explanations

  • Add Custom Instructions for consistent formatting, language, or assumptions
