Upload and Use Reference Documents in Ask

E
Written by Eileen Lichtenstein

You can upload reference documents in Ask while drafting or reviewing in the Word Add-In. For optimal functionality, make sure any PDFs you upload are OCR’d (text-recognizable).

Spellbook can read these reference files alongside your working document and answer questions with citations. This is especially useful for tasks like policy compliance checks, responding to redlines across multiple versions, tracking multi-amendment timelines, and conducting large-scale diligence.

This functionality is built directly into the Word Add-In, allowing you to seamlessly work with external reference documents, including PDFs.

Upload and Use Reference Documents

1. In Ask, click on the paperclip icon to attach files.

2. Upload your reference documents. You can upload multiple documents.

3. In the textbox, enter your prompt to ask questions or give instructions.
There are two reference modes that you can choose from:

  1. Document Queries: Send questions to one or more documents, aggregating the answers and returning with an excel file, as well as passing that information to the main chat.

  2. Read Document(s): Selectively read specific reference documents as needed, pulling the full text to allow for direct and precise comparisons.

4. Click "Start"

5. Spellbook will review your prompt and provide an answer. There will be citations that you can hover over to see the exact quoted paragraph or bullet from your reference document.
