What are Fallback Positions?

You can improve the efficiency of your document review by using Spellbook's Playbook feature to run a targeted analysis of a document against your specific requirements and needs.

You can add fallback positions to these playbook rules to help add in your pre-determined fallback positions or what you're willing to negotiate on.

How to Use Fallback Positions in your Spellbook Playbooks

Use Spellbook's fallback positions in Playbooks to help:

  • Standardize fallbacks and what you're willing to negotiate for certain document types across the organization (for example, specific limitation of liability fallbacks)

  • Build into your negotiation workflows what certain clients are willing to accept as a fallback

  • Help train newer team members on the requirements of the organization

How to Add Fallback Positions to Playbooks

1. To access Playbooks, go to the Review tab

2. Click "Playbooks"

3. You can then find the playbook you want to edit and add fallback positions to.

NOTE- only the author of the playbook has the ability to edit the playbook. If you are not the author of the playbook, please reach out to your Spellbook admin to confirm who can help you make these updates.

If you are unable to find the author, you can always clone the playbook and make a copy for yourself. See more on how to Clone a playbook here.

4. Click the gear icon to edit the Playbook

5. Click "Edit"

6. Find the rules you want to add fallback positions to and click on the pencil icon to start editing

7. To add a fallback position to a rule, click on the Fallback position icon

8. Type in whatever the appropriate fallback position is for the rule

9. When you're happy with it, click Save. You can apply fallback positions to any and every rule you like.
